Setting the Stage

Shakespeare in the Classroom

For 30 years, Seattle second graders taught by Harvey Sadis have thrilled audiences as they performed Shakespeare’s best known plays.  Most had never before seen live theatre, many are children of immigrants and English is not their first language.  Their success demonstrates, as Sadis puts it, that all children are gifted, and the teacher’s job is to help each child find and develop their own unique gifts.

We Are Not Ghosts

rebuilding Detroit from the bottom up

Fifty years ago Detroit was booming,

with two million hard working people

living the American Dream.  Then the

auto industry fell on hard times and

away,  Whole neighborhoods turned

Into wastelands.  But some have a

vision for a new Detroit, as a human

scaled city in a post industrial world.

And they are starting to make it real.
